good day

March 3, 2005 | Uncategorized

Well, the gods must have smiled on me after my stress-session yesterday, because I have had a stormin’ day today.

First, yesterday I got my tax refund for the years and years when I spent lots of money on writing without getting paid for it. That’s such good news that it can span two days. It’s just enough to pay my accountant with a bit left over to put towards the RNA and RWA conferences.

This morning, I woke up to an email from a friend I haven’t heard from in years. One of the things I love about email.

School was excellent. My tutor group made me laugh (again) by having a serious discussion about Teletubbies, and my students, as a whole, were enthusiastic and had done excellent work. Moreover, I got to sincerely praise several of them–which I always love doing.

One of my colleagues introduced me to some poems by Blake which set off some fireworks in my head about this book I’m revising.

When I checked the post, I’d received a thank-you card from somebody who I’d helped with their writing. I don’t always send as many thank-you cards as I should and whenever I receive one I vow to send more. They are a wonderful lift.

As the day went on, I received more emails, including:
–Ones from friends being supportive of me and of each other (one wise person even quoting Julian of Norwich)
–One from somebody I’d sent an invoice to for a piece of work, who was writing back to insist I claim more money–YES!! More money for the conferences!!
–One from the editor of emagazine asking me to write an article on Thomas Hardy’s poetry (they’ve already asked me for an article about Wuthering Heights for next month)–hooray, yet more money for the conferences!

And then when I got home, my husband had totally cleaned the bathroom, re-tiled part of the floor, and done all the dishes and the tidying again!

Unless Owen Wilson turns up at my front door holding a multi-book publishing contract, I’m not sure this day can get much better.
