Er, sorry about the random Neil Diamond post. I just love that song and it was on the radio so I typed out the lyrics and posted them.
One reason I love that song is because my friends Kathy, Treena and I used to play that song as loud as we possibly could on the tape player of Kathy’s parents’ huge brown car, roll down the windows, and drive very fast around the back roads of Otis, Maine, taking the bumps like a roller coaster with bouncy suspension.
We changed the lyrics so that we sang, “Nothing around but the sound of my heart and your thighs.” I’m not sure what sound thighs make, but I like that version.
Another reason I love that song was that when I was a little kid I used to think it was called “Reverend Blue Jeans” and it was about this sort of funky priest. And that this “Money” that talked but didn’t sing and dance and walk, was a small disabled child. I guess the priest was hanging out with the kid. It was sort of a touching story.
A few years ago, I went to see Neil Diamond at Wembley and he sang that song. I was very excited and jumped around a lot.
And when we were in Venice last week, we had dinner at this wonderful hotel, where there was a guy playing the piano and singing Neil Diamond songs in Italian. Which was great. He didn’t sing “Forever in Blue Jeans” but he could have done.
My husband and I went out for dinner last night and spent some time talking about money, what to do with it, how much we need. This song is a reminder.
I am also very fond of songs that use the words “baby” and “babe” at the moment.

Stephen says:
Ah, I think that I am beginning to understand.
Anna Lucia says:
So you’re not bankrupt, then.
Good, good…
Michelle says:
Awwww…
Danica says:
Oh that’s very sweet. Neil Diamond brings me back to my childhood too.
Kate says:
I am SO glad its not just me that thought that song was about Reverend Blue Jeans! People laugh when I tell them but now I can say that its not just me!
