other men

My husband has a weird sort of relationship with the fact that I find celebrities, become obsessed with them, watch their movies and listen to their music and put up photos of them on my computer, and then make up fictional personalities about them and write about them having sex and falling in love.

Mostly he puts up with it with amazing fortitude and good humour. He’ll watch the movies with me and he prefers it when I pick an actor whose films he likes. The other day he was watching a film and he called to me from the other room because Owen Wilson was going to be in it for a couple of minutes. (Actually it turned out to be Luke Wilson, but he was trying, bless him.)

At times he is somewhat bemused by it. He knows it’s fantasy, but it is, I admit, a pretty weird thing to do. He shakes his head and says, “Mucky books,” as if that explains my madness. More recently he has been staring at me as if I am a member of another species. Especially about the whole Constantine thing.

Anyway, he laughed at this photo of my current hero. “He looks like he’s standing there saying ‘Look at me, aren’t I pretty,’” he said.

  1. My dh rolls his eyes when I’m watching another one of my actor’s movies. Now he and my son have taken to teasing me about it. It’s research, I tell you! Research!

So far I’ve been able to keep my new boyfriend Eddie Cibrian under wraps, though.

  2. Mary, you are even more obsessed than I am about posting hero pictures, so I don’t feel so bad.

  3. Hmm, I have tried but he just does not do anything for me. I am with your dh on this one. But I have no doubt that when you describe him in your book, I will be able to remake his features more to my liking. :)

  4. That man looks like he’s wearing a plastic mask… *Shiver*

I already have a completely different view in my head of this current hero of yours – LOL!

    Sacridelicious, isn’t it?

  5. ‘Fraid he is a bit of a pretty boy. Oh well. I like the rough-around-the-edges boys myself. :)

  7. I am so, so glad none of you like my Cillian because that means he is mine, mine, MINE!!! Bwahahahaahahahahaahahaha!!

And you can think about Bruno, my hero, as looking however you like. He’s rougher around the edges than Cillian. But he has the eyes and the impeccable bone structure. Man.

  8. As long as you don’t start naming pets after Cillian, it’s all good.

I like mine a bit more rough around the edges.

  10. So your DH hasn’t done the “well, she just writes about me because I’m such a stud” line at parties, then?

And I note you’ve still avoided the question re pronunciation of Your Cillian’s name. Silly-ann? Killane? Chilleen? Inquiring minds (who ought to be working but have been knocked out by paint fumes) need to know.

  11. I think it’s Killyan. He’s an actor, Sadhbh, in 28 Days Later, Batman Begins, Girl With Pearl Earring. In fact, Sadhbh, given your name, you probably know how to pronounce his?

My DH is convinced he will never hear the end of it when my books come out. I’ll try to teach him the stud line, Kate.

  13. Gosh, he does look pretty in that pic…My husband is very tolerant of my current Sean Bean obsession, especially when I forced dh and son to see Flightplan four times!

  14. finally! my friend and i are not alone in this world — there are others! since we’ve been 15, we’ve jumped from obsession to obsession (as we call them), and today in our mid-30s this continues, husbands and significant others notwithstanding. today hers is Green Day’s Mike Dirnt (!) and mine are Cillian (sorry! there’s loads of him to go around, though)and The Bean. Breakfast on Pluto just put me over the edge when I saw it! And yes, we do write about them and our fictional personas! Ah, so nice to know we have company…

  15. So, so glad to find an objective third person to swear that Cillian is indeed lovely, Carlyn.

I do not think four times is obsessive, Josie. Definitely not.

  17. His name is pronounced Killian, I used to think it was Sillian, but it isn’t, it’s a rather common name in Ireland actually. Wow! I’m just so glad to find people who agree that Cillian Murphy is gorgeous!!!

  18. Hmmm…did I mention I’ve been in the same room with him, Tammy and Melissa? ;-)

  19. I’m glad I’m not alone in my embarrassing obsessing and fanfic-ing about Cillian Murphy! Drop by my LJ and have a read, if you’ve got enough brain power at the moment.

  20. Cillian Murphy is versatile, reticent, sexy, handsome, talented. I can go on forever! I admire him so much. His movies are so amazing. I wish I can meet him.

  21. Did I mention I have his autograph? ;-)

  22. OMG! How in the world did you get his autograph? Did you meet him?

  23. My friend met him and said, “I have this totally awesome [meaning obsessive and insane] friend who loves you and has written a book about you, can she have your autograph?”

So he wrote on a page of a ripped-up notebook:
To Julie, hello, how are you? hello. Cillian Murphy.

Then she snapped his picture and framed them both for me. He’s in scruffy jeans and t-shirt and looks like a skinny Irish chippie, but that is fine with me.

  24. Wow. I thought I was the only one that did stuff like this!!! My husband puts up with me as well and calls them “my buddies” and I am currently working on a book that has all the guys in it that I like!
Right now I am liking: Alex Pettyfer, Cillian Murphy, Ian Somerhalder, and Jackson Rathbone.
So good to see that I am not the only one!!! :)
