I am finally HOME!!!

Turns out the flight was delayed for so long because they were waiting for the airplane to come in from London. At around eleven pm it came in and I have to say the people walking off that plane (carrying nothing but little clear plastic bags) looked hugely relieved. The crew cleared the plane very quickly and got us off the ground on time (that is, at the rescheduled time, after the 5-hour delay)–despite searching every passenger all over again.

I have to say it was probably the safest I have ever felt flying, because I knew nobody on that plane had even the most remotely dangerous item in their possession.

Once we got to Heathrow, we had another hour and a half delay because there was nowhere to park the plane, because nothing was taking off.

Despite all this I did manage to make it to the hospital on time for my scan. I was eating Skittles like crazy trying to give the baby a sugar rush so it would kick around for me (as it did the entire flight, keeping me awake, of course), but by the time I got in there, the baby was tuckered out, lying butt-up with legs crossed, playing with its toes. It took a little bit of persuading before we could see that it is most definitely a little boy!

My husband and I have precisely NO boys’ names picked out (well, aside from Elvis, of course) so we’ve got four months to come up with some now. Dave was working on stage when I called (he’s on tour with James Morrison) and you should have heard him whooping to all the band and crew, “I’m having a BOY!!” (Notice I get no mention in this expression.)

I’m going to sleep now. Thanks to everyone who posted concern and good wishes–I will respond more properly when I am actually awake.

  2. Oh Julie, thank GOD! I was worried.

YAY! on the boy! LOL at Dave’s reaction, lol. With Moo, my hubby was absolutely green for 9 whole months…ten if you count the month after the baby when he was afraid to touch him for breaking him…so, his coolest reaction to anything was his ability not to pass out, lol!

    You sleep. :)

  5. Welcome home Julie!

I’m so old fashioned I thought James Morrison died in a hotel bath in Paris thirty-five years ago this summer…

  6. Welcome Home, Julie! Glad the traveling is over — you’ve got things to do!

A boy! A boy! A boy! LOL at Dave’s reaction. We never found out the gender of our kids, but I remember that Brian had to sit down very quickly with news of the second.

  7. Welcome home. Great to know you are safely back.

Many congratulations to you and Dave again, I’m glad baby cooperated with the scan in the end and you now know it is a little boy!

Names. What about Finlay Elvis Cohen? Surely the little guy has to have FEC as his initials!!!!

    Take care,
    Love,

No posts on Hugh Dancy in the “gorgeous men” list? Guess I’ll have to start my own list…

  16. Hi Julie, glad u and Elvis are home safe and sound. I agree the baby needs to have a name starting with F as we have all already christened him Fecklet.

lol on Dave’s reaction, my husband didn’t react at all which waas disappointing although he is a wonderful father.

Anyway, I hope you can catch up on your rest.

  17. So pleased that you managed to get home safely after the alert. Good to hear that you and the other passengers felt more secure with the intense security checks now going on. Congratulations on the news that you’re having a boy. Let’s hope you and Dave think of a name by the time it’s born, unlike the baby in Corrie St who hasn’t one yet. See you in September in Holborn.

  18. I’m so glad all is well with you. Congrats on your sweet boy. If your house is like ours, it won’t matter what you call him anyway. We make up names on the spur of the moment. In fact, my 19 year-old-daughter felt disposed yesterday to remind me that she is indeed 19 and perhaps the pet names could slow to a trickle soon!

    Glad you’re home and safe!

  21. Hi Julie,
    I ditto everyone else’s comments!!
I’ve also stopped by to let you know that I’ve now read ‘Delicious’ and LOVED it! I LOVE Elisabeth and Angus, and I also love the way you made every secondary character count too. (How did you manage that without having them take over the book?!) I don’t suppose there’s a future story for Jo brewing?
Okay, I’m now off to finally read your blog posts about Delicious.
Thanks again for the fantastic read; welcome home; and MEGA congrats on your baby boy..!

  22. Glad you got back safely, Julie. I didn’t know you are pregnant! The world seems even less safe when you bring a new life into it, doesn’t it? Yet, that new life gives us hope for the future. :)

    Congratulations.

  23. Hey Julie, glad you eventually got home! Airports are madness at the best of times–I worked on checkin at a London airport during 9/11 so believe me, I know! Did they allow you any hand luggage on the flight (planes out of the UK allowing none but wallet, passport and essential medication)? Thoughts of 8 hours on a plane with NO BOOK filling me with horror.

Congratulations on the news about the baby boy!
