December 31, 2006 | about me
I wish I could respond individually to everyone who left a message about Nathaniel, but I’m so overwhelmed by all the good wishes and congratulations that I can’t. I’m feeling very very lucky to be so blessed with friends, relatives, colleagues and loved ones to help share my joy.
Thank you.
It’s good to have independent confirmation that he is, indeed, quite as gorgeous as I think.
I’m tired. Nate sleeps very well–if I feed him thoroughly, he’ll sleep for three or four hours at a time, so that’s wonderful for me. But I’m still on woozy-making painkillers and I seem to be hungry constantly, because of the milk-making. Every now and then I have a half-awake dream and am very startled when I come back to reality. Yesterday I was holding him on the couch after feeding and, for a moment I sincerely thought that he was a loaf of bread.
My parents have been here and they have been great–spending lots of time adoring our son, but also cooking, cleaning, and stocking up my refrigerator. They went home this morning and we’ll miss them.

Sahndre says:
He’s worth every painkiller! I love his name as well as his wonderful hair. Both my kids had loads too.
I have just read Delicious, it was brilliant. Are we going to get Joanna’s story?
Take care,
Sahndre
Sue aka MsCreativity says:
(((Julie))) hugs on needing the painkillers.
Go with the hunger pangs – feeding takes an awful lot of energy. If you don’t eat well you’ll feel even more tired.
LOL at the loaf of bread – that’ll be the woozy painkillers making everything feel even more surreal.
Glad your parents have been around to help at this special time. It’ll feel strange for both you and dh as things return to ‘normal’. Take things as easy as you can – accept all the help you’re offered.
Wishing you and your family a wonderful New Year!
Hugs,
Sue
P.S. I have Spirit Willing, Flesh Weak in my TBR pile – I can’t wait to finally read it.

What a lovely post! Being a parent is a wonderful thing, well, give or take a few teenage moments! I’m glad you’re enjoying it as much as I thought you would. I loved breast feeding too and ate masses, but it gave me a few problems when I held my first grandson a few weeeks ago. After all, what could I do when he was hungry?! But you get to be a dab hand at baby entertainment after having four!
I love the name too!

Great post, Julie. lol @ the loaf of bread. (But he is quite scrumpicious. *g* so you’re not that far gone.) Have your parents gone back to the States, or just where they’re staying while in England? Take Care,
J
Michelle says:
I always was incredibly thirsty after nursing. Be sure to drink lots of water!!
And enjoy your snuggle time.
mary beth says:
Congrats again. I’m so happy for you. Happy New Year!
Queenie says:
He is a gorgeous baby!
And the hunger pangs? My mum was with me postpartum and she made sure that I had a bottle of water in one hand and a box of wheat thins/peanut butter sandwich/salad in the other….Go with the snacky flow!
Nicola Marsh says:
Ah Julie,
I remember that half-awake dream-like state well when I was feeding! Reminds me what to look forward to in May!!!
Anne McAllister says:
Eat what you feel like eating, Julie — and as often as you’re hungry. You will need all the nourishment you can get. And Nate will be happy that way, too.
So glad your parents were able to come and help out. I’m sure they thought it was more fun than helping. Grandkids are like that — especially when you can hand them back to their parents when they’re fussing! But Nate seems far too perfect to fuss. Enjoy! And happy new year to all of you!

Hi Sahndre…I’m really glad you liked Delicious. Jo’s story was my October release, MARRIED IN A RUSH, which should still be available on Amazon, I guess.
Thanks Sue, as always, for the hugs! I hope you like Spirit Willing. And I’ll remember your advice to take all help offered.
Thank you Lynne!
Jaq, they’ve gone back to the US. It’s pretty far away.
Michelle I am enjoying every minute of snuggle time. He is a lovely snuggly baby.
Thank you Mary Beth and Queenie. I am eating loads despite my chagrin that my stomach still looks 4 months pregnant.
Nic, yes, you have all this to look forward to again.
Julie Day says:
Many congratulations, Julie. He looks really cute. I am pleased that he finally arrived before Christmas for you.
Sahndre says:
Ah, it’s lucky I have just ordered it from amazon!
Can’t wait to read Married in a rush, ordered your other books to!!
I just wish I could write as well as you.
Hope you are feeling a little less sore.
Sahndre

I drank gallons and ate tons when feeding – the two things that really seemed to boost milk production were coconut and Guinness! (not in the same glass…)
I loved Delicious too – read it a couple of weeks ago. Got to love a romance that makes you laugh out loud.
Sadhbh says:
Hi julie – have fun with the breastfeeding – your nipples get better after about the first week
In France they prescribe stuff to boost your milk production, really sweet stuff that look like grey mouse droppings and taste much the same (I imagine
)
Rest is the most important thing. When I wasn’t getting enough sleep I needed to drink six litres of water a day to produce enough milk. I ate like a horse, drank like a fish and rented a milking machine so that DH could do the night feeds with my milk
And now the boys are fine strapping lads of almost four and three. I breastfed them until they were five months old, because I wasn’t into torturing myself once they started teething! (and I got pregnant again when Patrick was five months old! – something I would not necessarily recommend – very tiring!)
Hope you, Dave and Nate are continuing to enjoy life as a family unit
Hugs
Sadhbh

Take care of yourself! So wonderful that your family was there to help. My mom came to help after the birth of my children and she was a blessing. I was always sad when she left.
Nate is so precious! I can’t get over his pics.
Danica/Dream says:
Julie, enjoy this time! And while that little guy is scrumptious, don’t eat him!
Mom says:
Our arms are aching to hold Nate. We miss him and you terribly. Everyone on this end of the water thinks he is adorable, which is,of course, true!
We have white stuff on the ground and had a freezing rain on New Years Day. Today the sun is shining and the sky’s a brilliant blue, temp around 50F, and I love it!
Hope you’re feeling better every day
Love, Mom
Stacy Dawn says:
I just heard!! Congratulations Julie. He is a beautiful little boy!
