Hugh Jackman

This is the photo I used to inspire me for my hero Oz, in Being a Bad Girl. Intelligent, sweet, funny, very very gorgeous.

If you want to see more photos of the delectable Mr Hugh Jackman, make your way over to the Pink Heart Society where they are having a Hugh Jackman blog tour.

What better way to liven up a Monday.

  1. Yes, yes, YES! *sigh*. How’s a writer supposed to start their working week with inspiration like Hugh to tempt? ;-)

  2. Julie says:

You mean WITHOUT inspiration like Hugh, right, Sue? Hugh is an absolute necessity, in my opinion. ;-)

  3. I had forgotten about you and Hugh.

But every time I see Ewan MacGregor, Ithink of you…

  4. Trish Wylie says:

D’ya know that’s funny Michelle cos every time I see Cillian Murphy I think of Julie!!!!

I DIDN’T KNOW HUGH WAS OZ!!!! Now I’m gonna have to go re-read it with *brand new eyes*….

Off to the next destination I go….

  5. Julie says:

I will happily take credit for both Ewan and Cillian.

I did give Hugh blond hair for his role as Oz, but other than that, he’s spot-on. Hazel eyes and all. Lovely.

  7. I was interested to read that you use photos for character reference/inspiration. Is that true for places as well? Do you need to be able to see a scene before you can write it?

Thanks for visiting and commenting, Graeme.

I tend only to use photos for my heroes, because I am, shall we say, an obsessive person and I need to have someone very very fanciable to look at while I write. All the other characters I make up in every particular (and the heroes are pretty loosely based on physical type).

If a setting is really important, I might base it on somewhere real, but change it so it fits more with the meaning I’m trying to give it. So I have used real places in, for example, Featured Attraction (the outside of the State theatre in Portland, ME), Being a Bad Girl (the Portland Head Light) Married in a Rush (the National Gallery in London) and One Night Stand (most of Reading). But all of those were changed quite a bit.

I tend to use setting as a reflection of character so real life becomes pretty malleable.

    How about you?
