Tomorrow evening, I’m having a book launch for One Night Stand. It is in the Broad Street Waterstone’s, and I will read a bit from the book and then sign copies for anyone who happens to want to buy one. Then, I plan to drink.
One thing is marring my sunny skies…the books aren’t available. The warehouse is empty of them, because they have sold out and are being reprinted. Between them, the hardworking bookshop and the wonderful publishers have arranged for a stack of the books to be sent direct from the printers to the bookshop, which is totally going beyond the call of duty and they are amazing, amazing people. The thing is, this can’t happen until tomorrow. The. Day. Of. My. Launch.
I trust the bookshop; I trust my publisher; I do not trust the road between the printer and the bookshop which I am convinced is going to be closed because of a freak snowstorm or something.
All of my guests have a great sense of humour and I’m sure they will understand if they come to celebrate a book that isn’t. But I do hope it is. Please keep your fingers crossed.
On the other hand I have some KILLER BOOTS and a gorgeous velvet jacket to wear. And sequins. Yes!
Oh and I will have an extra-special announcement to make.
It will be fine. Remember you can have me manning the waiting list for you.

Good luck – the stock drama will add a little frisson to the evening, I should think! And how brilliant that it’s reprinting already. Now remember, no high-kicks in the killer boots…I speak from experience!

Congrats on One Night Stand being a hit! I’ve vowed to treat myself to a copy (if they’re available!) and a coffee at Waterstones in Charing Cross. Now why can’t you do a launch there?
Anyway, breathe, have a relaxing evening where you do not stress about the books and tomorrow everything will be fine!
I hope the books get there on time! And seriously, how great is it that there are no books because they SOLD OUT? That’s incredible! If you end up being bookless, at least you have a heck of a reason for it.
As a backup plan, do you have bookplates you could autograph for people to put in their books later? I only suggest this because I find that the more prepared one is for a disaster, the less likely the disaster will actually occur. So bringing bookplates would give you an almost 100% guarantee that the books woill show up on time.

Congrats on your great news, Julie! I wondered if I could guess what it was when I saw this post! And what a great way to be able to share it – at your very own book launch (must get me one of those one day).
