Okay. I need some help. I need a plausible-sounding, yet original, name for a device in a science fiction story, which causes localised time distortion.
At present I have “Particle Deconstructor” but I don’t think it sounds convincing enough.
Any ideas? I will love you forever if you can come up with something.
(And yes…I know I write romance and not science fiction. But I have found myself having to make up the entire story arc for a series of comic books that the heroine is drawing. Why do I get myself into these messes??)

How about a “Dimensional Portal” or a “Pathway Chronometer”?
Lynette
Well, it’s a temporal shift manipulator, obviously…
Oh. Son (who knows these things) says it should be a temporal harmonic manipulator. Me, I don’t think it has the same zap to it.
Quantum disassembleator
Particle redistributor
Particle transilience device
This is fun!
I hate to be boring about this but what’s wrong with “Localised Temporal Distorter”?
Hmmmm. More! More!!
Particle ioniser
Or go for some ancronym PI
or Temporal Particle Ioniser TPI
What is localised time distortion, anyway?
Hi! No new suggestions from me since ‘The Niffenegger’, however it’s fascinating what you find on the web whilst mooching about time travel/time distortions…

Oooh, acronym is a good idea.
sra…I have no idea. Hence the need for other people to make up plausible-sounding names.
I’ve heard of John Titor before, Ruth. Thank you for reminding me. Interesting, isn’t it? I love these net legends!
Localised time distortion – does nobody watch Red Dwarf?
Julie, totally off-topic but I started working in a bookshop at the beginning of March and on Friday I had the pleasure of selling one of your books to a customer! It was One Night Stand. We have a sizable cardboard stand with Little Black Dress books on it and every time I pass it, I make sure at least one of your titles is prominently displayed!
How about Simon??!!!
For some reason I love giving inanimate objects human names (especially when they do weird and complicated things that aren’t really possible!).
I suggest this is an excellent excuse/ opportunity for research – using old Star Trek episodes.:-)
The Space-Time Continum is a real concept.
Einstein is responsible for all of this milarky – so how about;
The REV box [ Rotational vector inertia accelerator – box – except the letters are jumbled because it was named by the french, or german, or russians – you get the idea.
Or give it a slang name – like the RUSH cube?
Sure you can think of something.
Sci-fi folks know the ‘sciffy’ codes/abbreviations very well and will accept this kind of terminology without blinking, so why not make it up as part of the world of the comic book?
Geek and proud. Ray-Anne
PS. The Artificial Intelligence Computer which held all the records and databases in my Sci-Fi was called ‘Martha’. And Jon Courtney Greenwood called his ‘The Fox’.
In both cases these were implants in the brain of the person using the data. Sort of like plug-in sockets where a mike lead/microphone could be fitted for an amplifier etc.
Does this give you any ideas?
How about The “Delimit Distorter”
