April 20, 2008 | about me
It hurts to walk, and to move, and to play with Fecklet, and to do housework, and to drive the car, and to sit in a normal chair, and to type. (Which means I owe lots of people emails–sorry.)
The only thing it does not hurt to do is to lie in bed reading. And to eat cake.
Sigh.

Nell Dixon says:
Hugs, take painkillers regularly, don’t try to do without them. Ibuprofen are good if you are okay with them but you need a decent dose like 600mg. Check with your pharmacist. Heat helps some people whereas ice helps others. Hope it goes off soon.
Chris Wing says:
Acetaminophen is easier on your stomach and the same pain relief as other non-prescription
Good Luck
Kate Walker says:
Ouch! Poor you
Sending hugs - gentle ones - of sympathy - and yes, take painkillers, what suits you best. But take them And eat cake . . .
And your care package will be with you soon!
love
Kate
Phillipa says:
Ohh, Julie - Big hugs! Writing is really bad for your health. I did my lower back earlier this year - the physio blamed it all on sitting on my bum for too long, writing. Injections helped and loads of back stretching. I hope you get some therapy soon, in the nicest possible way!
Phillipa says:
PS Try and get to see a good physio, if you can… worth their weight in gold.
Ehle says:
Are you sure it’s your back? This sounds like maybe you’ve got a rib out of place. (Easy to do if you’ve been coughing a lot.) Like Nell said above, Ibuprofen is good for pain, but you’ll need a significant dose, and it may take a few days to be really effective–between 800mg and 1500mg. Hot showers, cold packs, and back massages also work well to alleviate the discomfort, but it would probably be a good idea to see a doc just in case, especially if the pain worsens when you breathe.
Carol says:
Honest! Ice! You don’t feel the cold on the inflamed part the way you do normally. It just feels cooling. Anyway hope it’s sorted soon for you, it’s so miserable when your back hurts
liz says:
take it easy…..enjoy the cake and the reading. sending lots of hugs!!!
Ray-Anne says:
Sending good pharmacist-type vibes your way. Hope you feel better soon, preferrably before the cake runs out and Fecklet works out how to open the refrigerator on his own.

Drugs. Can be useful.
Jan Jones says:
Or - how about arnica tablets? They are tiny white specs of magic, honest. You get them from the chemist, they don’t argue with regular pain-killers, but they mend internal bruising and strain like nothing else I know. Suck or crunch two of the little darlin’s every two hours to begin with, then every four hours.
They’ve worked brilliantly for me on many occasions.
Jan Jones says:
Oh, and (((((hugs)))))
