an admission, brought about by listening to 80s radio on the internet

April 28, 2008 | about me

You know, when I was a teenager, I was quite embarrassingly besotted with the music of Air Supply.

  1. Hello. My name is Rosalind and I like Peter Skellern.

Why is that embarrassing, Julie? If you liked it, you liked it, and you shouldn’t have been listening to what your peers or right-on pundits in the music press said you ought or ought not to like. After all, enough people liked them to make them well-known.

  2. Donna Alward says:

    Me too.

    Sigh.

  3. Sally Lawton says:

    Hi Julie,
Just want to stop by and say that ONE NIGHT STAND was BRILLIANT!!!
I’ve given it a teeny review on my blog!

    X

  4. Helga Hansen says:

I’m all out of love, I’m so lost without you… what a perfect song for a romance author!! :)

  5. Julie says:

Well, I think the reason it’s embarrassing, Rosie, is that it is SO cheesy. I mean, I’m married to a muso, but despite this I usually embrace my love of cheesiness. I will cheerfully admit that I LOVE Herb Alpert, REO Speedwagon, Rick Astley, and the song I Wanna Sex You Up by Color Me Badd…but Air Supply…well, I found it all so DEEP and MEANINGFUL.

That said, Helga is right, it’s good training for being a romance author.

Donna, did you own Greatest Hits on cassette like I did?

Sally, hooray, I’m glad you liked One Night Stand! :-D

  6. I just dropped $250 on Bon Jovi tickets…*that’s* a bad 80’s crush hanging on. But it was an AWESOME concert!

(But if it makes you feel any better, I have Air Supply’s Greatest Hits on CD!)

  7. Julie says:

Kimberley, that is not a bad 80s crush. That is dedication.

  8. Christyne says:

Hey Julie! Add me to the Air Supply Fan Club…otherwise known as an “Airhead”!

My favorite is “Two Less Lonely People In The World”…perfect for a romance writer!

  9. I bought ‘I’m all out of love’ for an ex. Gulp.

  10. Donna Alward says:

LOL yes on Cassette tho it was my sister’s, and then I bought the cd later.

Now I want to listen to it and it’s packed! LOL

  11. Kristin (Koris) Wilson says:

Hi Julie! I just found your website from our high school group room and I wanted to say congratulations on your success. I used to keep up with your doings through your dad when I inevitably had to have cavities filled every year, but alas my new dentist in Bangor doesn’t know anything about you… :) I can’t wait to read your books! I’m in a book club with my mom and her sisters. I’m going to pick the sexiest book you’ve written for them to read and really knock their socks off! ha!
I didn’t see if you were coming to the reunion this year? Anyway, this got longer than intended… congrats again and best wishes for continued success! Kristin

  12. Julie says:

Yes, well thanks Christyne and Phillipa, obviously I have had those songs in my head all day now. :-)

Hi Kristin! Yes, I’ll be going to the reunion. LOL at getting your book club to read the sexiest book…I hope they enjoy it! And hope to see you this summer.

  13. Ro says:

I’m not going to knock Air Supply … not when I have ABBA and ELO on my MP3 player!
