Rumford library

August 17, 2008 | about me

Lots happened in Maine, in sort of a laid-back not-much-is-happening way. The talk I did with Kathy Love and Anna Louise Lucia, at the Rumford Public Library, was really fun. You see, I used to work at the library when I was a teenager, and I always dreamed of writing a book, having it published, and it being on the shelves of Rumford Library. Kathy and I grew up in Rumford together (well, she grew up in Rumford Point, but that counts), and we wrote together in school, and now here we were, along with our dear friend Anna. It was one of those moments where you really step back and go, “Now this is what it’s all about.”

The audience (full of my and Kathy’s former teachers and classmates) was fantastic and very welcoming, and Kathy and Anna are both really talented and funny. I think this photo sums it up best:

Thanks to Claudia at the library for this photo and for organising the evening so well; it was one of the best-publicised and organised events I have ever been involved in, and one of the most enjoyable, too.

This, and my class reunion, were the only two things I bothered to dress up for. The rest of the time, I was wearing jeans or shorts and ratty t-shirts with cartoon characters on them.

Sorry you couldn’t come, Rach. But yes, you’ll most likely be inflicted with photos… ;-)

    Hello!
Just stopping by to say hi as I’ve not had chance to log-on for AGES!
I bought Honey Trap the other day and can’t wait to read it!
