soap operas

So as research for my book, I’ve been watching US soap operas on YouTube. How cool is that?!?! If you’re in the USA, what’s your favourite soap? Why?

I used to watch General Hospital when I was a teenager, many years ago. Imagine my shock when I watched a 2007 episode of The Bold and the Beautiful and saw one of the same actors on it, looking not a single day older.

Left, General Hospital in the 1980s. Right, Bold and the Beautiful, today. Twenty years have removed the mullet and the beard, but added no age to Jack Wagner…

How do they do that?

Postscript: Ah. I see.

  1. Yikes, you should have offered a warning about that site!

I’d still like to know whoever decided the mullet was once a sexy look.

  2. He is also involved with Heather Locklear.

I watched GH right up until we moved last May, and I gave it up. Every now and then I have an urge to see what Jason is up to though.

I still know most of the words to All I Need and had Jack Wagner’s cassette. :-)

  3. Heather Locklear also looks suspiciously young for her age.

I remember that song, Donna. That was about the time I was watching GH.

Kate, yes, that site is a bit scary. Do you mean you don’t fancy mullets!?!?! Shock horror!!

  4. Julie,

My name is Anna, and I watch reruns of Another World on Hulu.com. I loved that soap when I was in high school, and I can remember watching it with my mom when I was just a child, and somehow, while I had small children and a day job, it got canceled. Mind you, since it got canceled, it’s been on Soapnet and AOL was streaming it for a while–canceled both those places as well. So, I’m watching and wondering when it will go away.

Ahhhhh. Confession is good for the soul.

P.S. ABC offers full episodes of GH on their website.

Hope your revisions are going well!

  5. Oh wow, I had no idea Jack was in General Hospital that long ago!

I remember him as Dr Burns on Melrose Place.
And I reckon he’s looking his age these days on B&B. Those close ups are killers on wrinkles ;)

  6. Ahhh, Anna, non-US residents can’t watch the soaps on the US network websites. I have to do YouTube, which is all done by people pointing their cameras at their TVs. Possibly one reason why I didn’t see Jack Wagner’s wrinkles in his close-ups, Nic. :-)

I will check out Hulu.com. Yay!

  7. LOL! I’ve watched Another World episodes on YouTube. For an addict–I mean, fan–Mac Cory’s holiday toasts were a highlight of the AW year, and I had myself a whoop of delight when they began to show up in clips.

Hope Hulu offers something you can enjoy!
