I mean it this time

Yesterday I took a day off and took the Fecklet to see Thomas the Tank Engine at a heritage railway centre. We only told him that we were going to see some trains. You should have seen that kid’s face when he spotted a real live Thomas chugging down the track towards him.

Wow.

Today, I’m writing. I’ve been so busy with workshops and the like (and yes, okay, with procrastinating) that I’ve not had a lot of time to spend on my own book. And I don’t know about you, but when I don’t write every day, it gets harder to write. My thoughts wander far from the story and it gets more and more difficult to write the next few sentences, and easier and easier to read emails, blog and do general housework. And waste time on the net. I spent ages on this awesome site yesterday reading about conspiracy theories. It’s research, though I’m not quite sure for what.

I’ve also spent far too much time on Facebook. (BTW, my cousin upbraided me yesterday for not being on Facebook when in fact I practically live on the damn thing. It makes me consider the improbable proposition that there might be some people out there I’m not friends with yet. If I’m not friends with you, please click here and add me. I’m a Facebook whore.)

But that is now finished. I am spending today, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday writing like a madwoman. I am even going to be so rash as to post a goal: from now to the end of the day Wednesday I want to have written 7000 words on the wip.

There. I’ve said it.

Now, to do it.

  1. I’d wanted to take Elvis to see a live Thomas, but it was always too far to travel. I can totally see Fecklet’s face. So cool!!!

But enough distracting you with comments. Write, Julie, write!

  3. FB is sooo dangerous. I waste lots of time there. But I’ve found so many old friends I haven’t talked to in years! It’s addicting.

Hope you get lots of writing done today! I need to do the same. And laundry. Ugh.

  4. My two ADORED seeing Thomas whenever we went to Nene Valley.

I’m with you on the getting-back-into-the-book mode. It’s really, really difficult after a break.

    7000 by Wednesday, though… Blimey.

  5. I’ve done 1064 words today. That leaves 2000 for the next three days, when I have child care. This is what I’d planned when I set the goal. We shall see.

Good luck with the writing, Liz and Karen and Jan.

Rachel, you know, my kid talks about Elvis all the time (the Presley one, not your Elvis, though it could be yours too). He thinks Elvis is a member of the family, mainly because I have a picture of him over the fireplace, and the other pictures are all of family.

  6. Oh, that brings back memories. Chris LOVED Thomas. And his little face when he realised he could go on the “real” Thomas… Over the years, we’ve visited a good 50% of the steam railways in England!

Good luck with the wordcount etc. Would challenge you to a race, but as I have a patient to look after (a stubborn one who claims he can go back to work, despite the fact that he looks like a strawberry and has a temperature… arrgh, why can’t he be the manflu type so I can set him up with cool drinks, DVDs and Mojo?) I think my WIP’s going to go backwards. And I might have to confiscate the controls of the X-box *g*)

  7. Choo Choos.
Oh, got to love choo choos.
When I was a small I had to walk over a railway bridge to get to school and I’ll never forget the steam and the whistles from the steam trains as they came into our station.
    Yes. I am that old.
Long may he continue to be fascinated. LOL
And best of luck with the WIP.

  8. Haven’t seen a live Thomas yet, but scarily I think DH is more excited about the prospect than the little ones.

Facebook. I’ve finally flirted with it. Added a photoless profile for myself as my sister has been linking up with people from our past, the tiny town in the middle of the Irian Jayan jungle where we grew up, and they’ve started emailing.

Should I embark further on my journey will definitely link up with you. I only have five friends right now which I gather makes me pretty pathetic.

  9. Did you go to Quainton? If so, you were veeeery near where I live!

  10. No, Didcot!

Carol, my DH was definitely as excited as the Fecklet! And let me know when you’re ready to be FB friends.

Ray-Anne, that sounds like a thrill for a little girl too!

Kate, I’m not surprised that Chris was a Thomas fan. I hope your DH gets better (or at least out of your hair) very soon. And I would never challenge you to a word count race–you’d beat me within minutes!!
