June 15, 2009 | Honey Trap, contests
Well, this is what I needed on a Monday morning, looking forward to most of this week trapped inside the house with chicken poxy Fecklet:
Honey Trap has just won first place in the single title category of Romance Writers Ink’s More Than Magic contest!
Yay!

Nell Dixon says:
Congratulations! On the chickenpox – the cooler you can keep Fecklet the less spots he’ll get. If they are really itchy you can get oatmeal and tie it up in some old tights to make a pack. soak it in water and ring it out and put it in the fridge to place on really itchy hot spots. It’s also great run in a cool bath with the oatmeal – don’t put oatmeal loose in the bath though or you’ll get a big mess. It contains a substance that naturally soothes itching without causing reactions so very good for littlies.

Huge congrats!!!(that’s for the book not the pox!)

Fantastic News!!!!!
And here;s hoping the fecklet is a lesser freckled fecklet soon.
Kate Hardy says:
Congrats, Julie
And hugs on the chickenpox. Lots of books, lots of singing and playing games, and a bit of flopping with kiddy TV (if Come Outside is still being shown, that always made mine smile – and then there are the Pixar animations. We still love Toy Story.)
Kate Johnson says:
Whee congratulations! On the book, not the chickenpox. But at least he’s getting it young. Calomine lotion worked for me–messy, but soothing. Or take inspiration from Honey Trap and try lavender oil!
Jan Jones says:
Hey! Fabulous!
And chicken pox doesn’t last that long. It only feels as if it does.

Fantastic news Julie! A very well deserved win.
Hugs on the housebound chicken pox thing, that was me last week when my baby had it. He really suffered with it as well, hope the Fecklet only has a mild case.
Christyne Butler says:
Yeah Julie….congrats to you! And hugs to the fecklet!
Kimberly Lang says:
Yay for you!
Hope Fecklet is better soon.
Julie says:
Thank you everyone!
I really needed that news because otherwise I might have gone utterly stir-crazy.
Nell, oatmeal baths are great. I’ve used them with Fecklet’s eczema before and with my own allergies. I will do one tonight. Most of his itchy ones seem to be in his hair, though, and he hates to get his head wet.
We’re using lots of calamine, Kate, though I hadn’t thought of lavender. Very dilute it should soothe and prevent infection and help him sleep, too. I think we’ll be having a oatmealy and smelly bath tonight!
Jan, it’s been at least six years already!!!!!
Hugs, Carol. I’m glad you’re finished with it now.
Kate Johnson says:
Actually, don’t necessarily hope for a mild case: I had it when I was quite small (didn’t feel mild I can tell you!) and figured at least I’d never have to go through it again. Wrong! The second case got inside my mouth and ears–very painful, believe me–and I was told it’s not that unusual to get a second case if the first one wasn’t that severe.
Lavender is brilliant for itchiness–I speak as one with a history of hypersensitive skin and urticaria. Plus it smells nice. A bonus over some of the stinky, sticky stuff my doctor gave me. I don’t know what antihistamines are suitable for small children, but I’m sure there must be something he can take that ought to reduce the itching (clarityn and zirtek are over the counter and good for itchiness–check if he can take them).
Carol Warham says:
congratulations on the good news.
mulberry says:
Yay for the first place! I read it elsewhere and wanted to say congratulations. Hoping Fecklet is over the chickenpox soon.
Fiona Harper says:
Congratulations, Julie! On the award, not the pox, of course…
