happy independence day

July 4, 2009 | Uncategorized

Of course, now that it’s Saturday and the fourth of July, the United Kingdom’s long spell of sunshine and hot weather has come to an end. It’s overcast and cool. It’s been so hot, though, and the UK is so ill-equipped to deal with heat and sun, that the normal greyness feels like a relief.

Fecklet and I are going to a barbeque today, so I hope it won’t rain. Even if it does, we’ll have a brilliant time being with friends.

I’m nearly 77,000 words into this manuscript now, and it’s starting to make sense. I like to do the bulk of my research after I’ve already written a great deal of the emotional journey, so I know which details are relevant. So hopefully I’ll be touring an ice cream factory in a few weeks to learn how that’s done (so I can teach my heroine, who hasn’t a clue), and I’m trying very hard to get to talk to a stunt woman or man to ask some questions about the career.

Anyway, happy fourth of July, my fellow Americans! I hope it’s a day of celebration wherever you are, and whatever the weather.
