BOOK NEWS

I’ve got a title for my first book with Headline Review—GETTING AWAY WITH IT.

Stunt woman Liza Haven couldn’t wait to escape the small village where she grew up with her perfect identical twin, Lee. But when a near-fatal mistake drives her home, she finds Lee gone, and everyone in the village believes Liza is her sister. Liza has to deal with their ailing mother, the family ice cream business, and Lee’s dangerously attractive boyfriend. Liza’s always been the bad twin, but as she struggles to keep up the masquerade and puzzle out where her sister has gone, she realises it’s not so simple. She’s spent her whole life getting away with it—is it time to face up to who she really is?

GETTING AWAY WITH IT will be published in hardcover and trade paperback in October 2010, and in mass-market paperback in April 2011.

WORKSHOPS

I do a variety of writing workshops for groups, and I’ve delivered them to professional writing groups, students of creative writing, aspiring authors and creative writing associations, teachers, secondary school pupils, and reading groups, in libraries, classrooms, conferences and universities, in the UK and the US, and even on television.

This year, I’ll be giving workshops at the Festival of Writing in York, and also at the Romantic Novelists’ Association conference in Greenwich.

My most popular workshops are:

Creating Character. This is a hands-on, practical workshop on creating a character from scratch. Participants start with a blank piece of paper, and by the end of the workshop they have a fully-rounded character and have practised several techniques on how to best create character.

Writing Sex Scenes. This is a fun, practical and slightly raunchy workshop on creating sensual sex scenes that have real emotional depth. It involves strawberries and chocolate and is by far my most popular workshop.

In addition, I have already-prepared workshops on Getting Published, Self-Editing, Pacing, and Creating Point of View (the latter specially designed to fit in with current A-level English Literature and Language and Literature curricula). And I can often adapt or create a new workshop according to a group’s needs.

I’m also the lead tutor on Cornerstones Literary Consultancy’s residential workshop on Writing Commercial Women’s Fiction (dates in September 2010).

Please contact me using the “contact” button above if you’d like to discuss my giving a workshop to your group. My upcoming workshops and appearances are on my main page.
