SPIRIT WILLING, FLESH WEAK
This book is cleverly told in the first person, which allows the reader to comprehend Rosie’s psyche and the forces that drive her to essentially con people night after night. Rosie and Harry are polar opposites; the former bases her life on lies and the latter is driven by the truth. It seems impossible that they would have a future together, but with sensitivity, skill and wit, Cohen carves out a heart-warming conclusion that will bring a tear to your eye. The Star (Malaysia)
Julie Cohen is a very talented writer…This book was fresh, it was funny, and it was romantic. However, there was so much more to it than this. It was serious, it was heartbreaking, and it had so many different layers.Romancereviewed
Julie Cohen allows the characters to unfold, grow and solve some of their individual moral dilemmas, at least to some degree. The Times of India
I really liked this book. It’s funny, snappily written and a real page turner - I ended up staying all night to read it. The heroine was quirky and interesting and the fortune telling theme was original.
It’s witty, fun, and just a little bit quirky. I hope to read more from this author in future - SO glad I found this title!
This is a great read. Snappy and sweet and it keeps the pace moving. The premise is new and edgy and the romance is believable and heart warming.
This is a romance with a BIG difference. A fab plot for a start. Plus a fresh and very irreverent style that had me laughing out loud. This book is not afraid to tackle difficult issues: like chip shops with cheesy names, the nightlife of Milton Keynes and why our trains are called Virgins when they’re blatantly phallic symbols.

Where her debut novel, FEATURED ATTRACTION, was a lighthearted, quick-witted love story, BEING A BAD GIRL is sweetly emotional…This is a touching, layered story of the disguises both Oz and Marianne wear at different levels of their relationship. The story plays heartstrings because of the honest work Marianne has to do to get her life back on track before she can be with Oz.

In her first book, Julie Cohen has managed to captivate me with her gorgeous hero (a bad boy, what romance reader doesn’t enjoy a bad boy?!) and a backdrop of an Art Deco styled cinema. The plot kept me turning the pages late into the night and the sexual tension between the main characters kept me on the edge of my seat…The author managed to redeem the bad boy and develop the heroine to grow up and realize that she makes her own luck.I would recommend this book to romance readers, cinema lovers and anyone in need of a good time!

Smart, fresh, funny and sweet, this sexy romance explores how one prom night changes two lives…The turning point in this novel is a unique variation on the desert island theme. When it the black moment arrived, I was actually nervous to pick the book back up, afraid that for once, the Happily Ever After was in serious jeopardy. However, Ms Cohen, with a deft twist, brings the two together again with realistic, refreshing honesty. The story is filled with movie references and a few 80’s throwbacks that will charm every reader. This is a book for my keeper shelf, and I highly recommend it.

FEATURED ATTRACTION drew me in from the first page and never let go. It’s one of those stories that quickly made me stop thinking “characters” and start thinking “people” instead. The descriptions of the Delphi were so detailed and realistic that I almost wished I could see the beautiful theater in person.

I recently appeared on BBC1’s Pageturners [www.bbc.co.uk/arts/pageturners] giving a workshop on how to write sex. Typical.
Shake off your inner mother
by Dorothy Lepkowska
Times Educational Supplement, 3 September 2004
By day she extols the virtues of Jane Austen and the Brontes to her pupils.
But beyond the school gates, Julie Cohen writes her own romantic novels and has become something of an expert on sex scenes.

from Supermarket Sex: It’s a bestseller
by Alison Baverstock
The Times, 11 August 2004
Held over three days at Leicester University, the [Romantic Novelists’ Association congeference] drew around 250 novelists (including a handful of men), and featured a range of workshops on topics from how to write a synopsis, market yourself and find an agent through to the aspects of the writing process such as characterisation, plot development and, of course, love scenes.
The last part, entitled Sexy Bits, was entrusted to Julie Cohen, who was wearing a chic cream top emblazoned with a pair of red lips. She gave everyone in the audience a small packet of chocolate that they were told not to open. “These are to remain on the armrests next to you,” she said. “They represent sexual tension.” Next came strawberries. We were told to eat them, then write about them. “I want you to describe the sensation of eating them. Engage all your senses, not just the most obvious ones.
“What is the smell like, how does it feel on the tongue, what is the texture like? At the same time, pay attention to what else is going on in the room. Outside noise can add a real intensity to the writing — as well as drama, if the protagonists are likely to be interrupted. Remember that sex takes place in the mind as well as the body, what you are thinking is just as important as what you are feeling.
“Try to put characters and situations together in unusual combinations — it’s much sexier to take your knickers off in a supermarket than in a bedroom.”
We wrote in secret, but were then asked to read our efforts aloud to our neighbours. “I shall never see you in the same light again,” whispered someone to my left.
